Hi, I’m Dr. Filardo, I’m a Doctor of Chiropractic who also is certified in Acupuncture. We have Anya, here, who in our last segment we talked about how to peform the acupuncture; now we’re actually going to do it. The needle is in about three to four millimeters and that’s all we really want to go. Acupuncture from Boel Akupunktur is done in depressions so we really just want to twist it to get an acupuncture stimulation and these points follow the twelve 4,000 year old meridian pathways that the Chinese have studied and treating over 2,000 conditions.

Okay. Good. Doing Okay, Anya? (affirmative nod) This is Anya’s first experience with acupuncture so we might ask her more than usual how she’s doing. Good, let me reload, here, on the needles. Okay, first we just kind of get them in and then we start to twist them and stimulate them in just a minute. (demo on needle insertions) Okay, some more needles. So, we’re focusing on the stomach meridian, the large intestines meridian, and the names don’t always match up with the area you’re trying to treat, it’s more about location on where they’re going in the pathways.
But, in this case, we are going to treat the stomach and we are going to treat the large intestine, and in the ear we’re going to focus in on the liver. Okay. The ear is a little more sensitive than other areas because there’s not as much tissue there. But most women probably remember the days when they got their ear pierced. It’s not nearly as painful as that. Okay, two more and we’re all done. This part of it. Good. Excellent. You doing OKay, Anya? I feel great. Oh, great!.

The Basics of Acupuncture : How to Choose an Acupuncturist


Hi, I’m Doctor Filardo, I’m certified in Acupuncture and we’re here with Expert Village on their behalf and in our next segment we’re going to talk about which doctor should you go to to get acupuncture done. There’s a lot of speculation about who’s good and who’s not good, what the education is and what the time and practice is, and the experience. So, I’m going to go through a few things that might help in choosing an acupuncturist, or someone that performs acupuncture. One of the things I think the best way to determine is, go to someone that you trust.

You know, go to someone that you might have gotten a different service, or somebody that they know on a referral basis. That always, kind of eliminates some of the crowd that way. And, then the second thing you can go into different forms of school. You can go to a DC, a Doctor of Chiropractic which I am, and we’re certified in acupuncture so we took the necessary schooling to perform acupuncture. And then there’s also a licensed Acupuncturist. And, so a licensed acupuncturist aren’t physicians but they’re very well trained in acupuncture. Then there’s Acupuncture Physicians, which are actual doctors, they’ve taken the right amount of hours to become a doctor of acupuncture.

And then there’s medical doctors that do acupuncture as well, and there’s DO’s that do acupuncture. If you’re already an existing doctor, it’s a certification to get acupuncture versus a licensed acupuncturist and an acupuncture physician. And, I think it comes down to trust, the comfort feeling that you may have through the office. Because acupuncture is pretty much, if you’re doing it the way the Chinese taught it, you’re doing it all the same in the different professions.

I mean, if it’s taught the way it should be taught, then you’re going to get it, that’s going to be similar. But then it comes down to the physicians accuracy and diligence in getting to be very good at what he or she may be doing. So, I think that’ll help in the sense of who to go to.

10 Acupressure Points to a Younger and Tense-Free Face


Hello! My name is Ivana Nikolic and I’m a registered acupuncturist at Angel Hands Integrative Centre. Today we are going to talk about some points in your face that you can use acupressure and massage. Even though they are a part of facial cosmetic acupuncture if you like, they also can help with some other problems that someone can have on your face. So the first point is in between your eyebrows. So, you can press this point with one finger, or two fingers. This point is Yin Tang, that is the name in Chinese Medicine. It is a very commonly used point. The pressure can be firm, more or less depending on what you prefer but, definitely you have to put an effort, so it’s not really just touching the point, it is massaging.

From there, you can move one point –one and a half inches straight above that point, forehead point, and press the same way. Next point would be –actually two points, are directly above the pupils, one inch above the pupils. This point is particularly very good if you feel a little bit sleepy, foggy minded, tired, also for tension headaches, for headaches and forehead. Next point would be one inch in your hairline. And again, just make sure that pressure is firm enough so that you can feel the massage. From that point we go to the corner of your scalp, about four and a half inches to the side, most likely less, so again, into your hairline. This is a very good point to use for migraines. So those would be the points on your forehead and scalp. From here, if you want to go in a circular motion with the cream on your face, and the reason for the cream is actually just so your fingers can move freely.

You go like this, from the first point, to the second, and then to the two points on the side, and again. So you can repeat this as many times as you need, I usually go up to ten times. Since this is a facial protocol, it can help reduce a few wrinkles or any puffiness that you have around your eyes. There is also another point that is particularly very good for sinuses, and it is the season for sinuses. So, you can press at the beginning of eyebrows and slightly inside, so when you feel the bones, the orbital bones, at the very beginning of eyebrows, you apply some pressure here. Okay, next section would be the nose and the points on your cheekbones, above and below. So the first point is the point right at the higher end of ala nasi, of the corner of your nose. So you can press with this finger, or you can push with your thumbs. This point is excellent to clear the –your nose, if you have, or if you’re coming down with a cold or you have a stuffy nose.

So from here, we go directly below the pupils and below your cheekbone. This point is usually very tender, and it is on Stomach Meridian. Lots of stomach points on our face, but this point is particularly perfect for that tension that we keep. So next point is in line with the end of your eyebrows and just below the bone. So those are three points. Again, you can go in a circular motion with that cream that I mentioned before, so you go from here, and then you can use all your fingers and connect all the points. So next point, on your jawline, is, can you clench your teeth for me? Okay, thank you. So there is a muscle here, Masseter muscle, there are two acupuncture points on each side.

This muscle is actually protruding, and you find the point here, at the very angle of your jaw, and then that point I find is very usually tender and painful, and that is a spot where we collect a lot of stress in our face. So at the end of the treatment, we can do –at the end of the massage, we can do actually, use all your fingers, and just slightly in your hairline inside, like maybe a couple of centimeters inside, just massage this area above and slightly in front of your ears. There’s a lot of acupuncture points there, and they’re all around your ears. This is really very effective to reduce tension and headaches. That’s it for now. Thank you -Thank you!
